It is with great sadness that the Oxford Wargames Society announces the death over the weekend 7th/8th February of Richard (Dick) Self a founding member and our President
I have had the privaledge of playing Wargames with Dick of and on over the last 30 years, Dick was one of the great gentlemen of the game, no matter how bad his plan was going, how bad his dice were, or how good his opponents dice were, he just kept smiling. It was always a joy to play alongside him or opposite him and he will be missed. I never once heard him raise his voice to complain or argue more than necessary about a rule accepting all decisions with grace and a smile. Wargaming needs more gentlemen like him as does this world.
The Oxford Wargames Society was founded in 1967 we are a miniature table top club for wargamers in Oxfordshire.
We meet most Mondays and one (usually the second) Sunday a month at at the Wolvercote Village Hall. Monday meetings start at 6:00PM and are usually finished by 10:00PM. Sunday meetings start at 9:00AM and are finished by 6:00PM.
We currently charge £2.50 for a Monday and £4.00 for a Sunday session. First visit to the club is free.
We
play almost any set of rules, currently we have a large contingent of FOG
players and we regularly run nineteenth century historical refights using the "Bloody Big BATTLES!" rules (BBB) developed here at OWS. We also play Warmaster, Warmaster Ancients, 6mm
Napoleonic's (our own rule set), WWII, Renaissance etc, as well as our own
rule sets for

If you don't have any of your own figures, don't worry, we have enough for a second club,and lend them out to other club members on a regular basis, so just come along and join in.
We also have players that go to competitions throughout the country. Recently at Warfare (in Farnborough) FOG of Glory competition we hade 6 players out of 24 and they finished 7= 7= 10 11 12 17=
